Windsurfing

Windsurfing on Bala Lake is continually growing in popularity - our windsurfing courses allow you to use the newest equipment in a safe environment. The centre is a HYFLY demonstration centre so you will be able to use the equipment made available by HYFLY. Our instructors will give you the right level of tuition to get you on the board and to experience this great sport confidently. For those who have had a go before, we will be able to help you improve your existing skills and develop new ones. Our staff are always keen to give advice both on and off the water and are usually available for one-to-one coaching if required. Our equipment is available for hire to the more experienced sailor.

WINDSURFING RYA COURSES

  COURSE CONTENT:

Sailing the Board on all points of sailing

Launching and landing the Board

Tacking and Gybing (turning the Board around)

COURSE CONTENT:

Improving existing techniques

Better stance and control of power

Tacking from close-hauled to close hauled

Gybing from beam reach to beam reach

Launching the board and rig together

Beachstarts

Theory and safety relevant to Level Two

 

PRE-REQUISITES:                  Level One certificate or
Basic windsurfing skills as outlined in course content for Level One

  COURSE CONTENT:

Stronger wind techniques

Control of board whilst planing – footsteering

Correct harness techniques

Getting in and out of footstraps

Faster tacking and gybing

Introduction to carving

Theory and safety relevant to Level Three

 

PRE-REQUISITES:                  Level Two Certificate or

Skills outlined in Level Two course content

 

NB. This course, successfully completed, enables the candidate to progress into windsurf instructor qualifications.

Exciting white water canoeing,kayakingCanoeing / kayaking

Beginner or expert can enjoy the ideal location of Bala Watersports for an introduction to the sport on Bala Lake or experience the challenging rapids of the local world-class white-water course. Our resident coaches cover the entire spectrum of the British Canoe Association syllabus.

Sailing

Excitement under sail on beautiful Bala LakeThe Centre is situated in an ideal position on Bala Lake for safe, enjoyable sailing. Our large fleet includes some Topaz dinghies from Topper International, allowing you to experience the manoeuvrability of a single-hander or the thrills and spills of the Topaz Trez - a fast two-man boat with trapeze and asymmetric spinnaker. Alternatively the delights of the lake can be experienced using our spacious Wayfarers. Working in small ratio groups our experienced instructors offer the full range of Royal Yachting Association courses - from a half-day taster for the complete beginner, to a level 5 course for the advanced dinghy sailor.

Swift Water Rescue

Swift Water Rescue is not a new fad - it is an internationally recognised river award, managed by Rescue 3 - the American governing body. This award is a must for Professionals operating on or near water.

Swift Water Rescue is an extremely arduous activity and you cannot experience Swift Water Rescue from a book or a video - no matter how good. There can be no substitute for professional training and experience.

Rock Climbing and Abseiling

North Wales offers some of the best climbing in the country and you will be able to experience some of the spectacular locations. Under the close supervision of our instructors you can enjoy some great challenges and the personal achievement of getting to the top.

Raft Building

Often used as part of a multi-activity or team-building program. Our staff will give you some useful tips and possibly a few handy knots - then its up to you! Those who are successful won't get too wet!!

Orienteering

One of the best ways to discover the area is to walk, cycle, canoe, kayak or run around it. Our orienteering courses develop teamwork and decision-making with varying levels of difficulty and so are suitable for many different groups.

White Water Rafting

White Water Rafting is a fast growing sport and available to everyone. Self-bailing rafts will be your transport, as you and your crew provide the energy to power your raft down one of the most exciting rivers in the country, under the guidance of your highly experienced and qualified raft guide. Each raft holds a maximum of seven crew members and all that we ask is that everyone is water-confident and prepared to get wet!! White Water Rafting provides the thrills for people of all ages - from school groups to corporate visitors.

Mountain Biking

Our mountain bike course has something for everyone whether it's your first time on two wheels or you would like to push your personal skills to the edge at our specialist mountain bike sites. We are able to develop the skills required to go off-road for the first time or tackle some of those gruelling climbs followed by some exhilarating downhill.

Multi Activity

Our Centre's flexibility and large variety of courses means that our multi activity program has grown in popularity. It is the ideal way of experiencing many of the activities we have to offer, all under the close supervision of qualified staff. Suitable for a half-day taster or a five-day course we will pack as much as we can into your visit.

All water activities available

Must bring packed Lunch and suitable footwear

 

Parents must be present at start and end of each day to assist in changing

Powerboating

Our powerboat courses cover the skills as required by the Royal Yachting Association, allowing students to achieve nationally recognised qualifications. The National Power Boat - Level 2 Certificate covers the basic skills and technical knowledge to ensure safe and enjoyable powerboating. The Safety Boat course is designed for safety boat crews or aspiring instructors and looks at the skills required to provide safety cover for fleets of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes.
