Rhydydefaid Farm is ideally situated for touring North and Mid Wales, indeed, one would have difficulty finding a location as central for touring as the Bala area. We are within an hour's spectacular drive of most of the coastal resorts of Mid and North Wales, not to mention the innumerable beauty spots and magnificent views within the interior of this beautiful region. There are interesting shops, inns, restaurants and an intriguing historical Town Walk. Bala boasts it’s own lake - Bala Lake or Llyn Tegid, the largest natural lake in Wales, alongside which runs a charming narrow-gauge steam railway. Llyn Tegid is the home of a unique fish, the Gwyniad (that's for real, not a legend) which is said to date back to the Ice-Age.
Back to topInterests and Activities in the Area
Bala Lake also has a sailing club and a waterborne activities centre. People come from far and wide to use the lake for windsurfing etc. The River Dee and it's local tributaries are famous for fly fishing and there is excellent fishing available on several lakes. There are opportunities for shooting game or clays as well as pony trekking, golf, ten pin bowling and many more activities. Bala has an excellent new leisure centre by Bala Lake-shore with a safe pool for children, a well-equipped gym and a cafe where you can sit and look out over the lovely lake view. Walking is a favourite activity with many visitors and little wonder with the wealth of beautiful countryside that abounds. Mountain climbing is also available nearby, as is horse or pony riding. For those who want to try out their 4-wheel drive machines, there are excellent off-road driving courses available from Bala. The Tourist Information Centre is located at the Lake-shore and has all the information you will need to find the activities you require, or maybe you will find new ones to challenge you. We keep a large collection of brochures which you will enjoy browsing through to help plan what to do and where to go.
